Books
These are books I have read, or am reading, and highly
recommend.
Adoption Healing... a path to recovery, Joe Soll, Gateway
Press, 2000
This book is wonderful for healing the adopted adult as well as
giving the adoptive parents an excellent blow-by-blow of the issues
they will need to deal with to help their adopted child grow to be
healthy and happy. It is also good for friends of adopted folks who
are interested and want to be a help. I will be giving copies to a
few select friends for sure.
Twenty Life Transforming Choices Adoptees Need to Make,
Sherrie Eldridge, Pinon Press, 2003
I read this before Adoption Healing, and it is 3 or 4 times the
size. The book is an exhaustive examination of the adoptees issues,
how they were formed, how they control our lives. The books main
focus is to get us as adoptees to choose to heal. With this
information, the process can be informed and successful (I hope!) I
liked it a lot. There are wonderful and painful things in here, all
of them helped me. Excellent first book for adoptees.
Twenty Things Adopted Kids Wish Teeir Adoptive Parents
Knew, Sherrie Eldridge, a Delta Book, 1999
I would get a job, work ridiculously long hours and give the rest
of my life's salary to have this book given to my adoptive parents
47 years ago. If you are adopting, if any of your friends are, or
you are dealing with an adopted child in any capacity - buy this
book and read it now. Please? It was also helpful for me to read,
and so I recommend it to adoptees as well.
